Distribution Agreement
This page is maintained by The Music Standard as platform template policy. It is not a substitute for legal advice - final compliance language should be reviewed by qualified counsel before public launch.
1. Authorization
You ("Artist") grant The Music Standard ("TMS") a limited, non-exclusive license to process, encode, store, and deliver the submitted release ("Content") to the digital service providers and platforms ("DSPs") you select, solely to operate the distribution service.
2. Ownership and rights
- Artist confirms they own or control the master recordings and all underlying rights necessary to distribute the Content.
- Artist confirms metadata, credits and identifiers are accurate.
- Artist confirms permissions for featured artists, producers, samples, cover songs, music videos, artwork and contributors.
3. DSP acceptance is not guaranteed
Each DSP independently approves, edits, or rejects releases. Release timing varies by DSP and is outside TMS control.
4. Takedowns and updates
Artist agrees to use the in-app workflows for takedowns and updates. Processing times depend on each DSP. TMS may also withhold delivery of Content that violates the Terms or Acceptable Use Policy.
5. Royalties
Royalties depend on DSP reports and the Artist's payout provider setup. During beta, royalty visibility may include placeholder or demo data. See the Royalty Policy.
6. Beta and manual delivery
Where DSP integrations are not yet connected, TMS may perform manual delivery on the Artist's behalf and clearly mark such activity in Distribution Status. Artists should not assume a release is live until an operator confirms delivery.
7. Indemnification (placeholder)
Artist agrees to defend and indemnify TMS against claims arising from Content the Artist did not have the right to distribute. Final wording to be reviewed by counsel.
8. Acceptance
By submitting a release in TMS, the following acceptance is recorded:
"I confirm I have read and accept the Distribution Agreement, that I own or control the rights to this release, that the metadata is accurate, and that I have permission for all featured artists, producers, samples, cover songs, videos, artwork and contributors."
